Soulful Solstice at Subud Center
Antonina Beyea on vocals, guitar and percussion, joined by musicians Michael Levy, Stephen Vahle, Laura Sera, Terra Collier-Young and Len Beyea.
Sliding Scale $15-$30
This season can be challenging due to stress, expectations, busyness, limited daylight, family gatherings, and loneliness. We gather in community during this sacred time to nourish our hearts and minds, seeking peace, relaxation, safety, and celebration. The music, along with our shared experiences, touches our souls deeply. Ancient cultures had profound connections with nature’s cycles, and we recreate this magic by honoring ancient and current wisdom. Our ancestors respected the earth and its beings, and we strive to reconnect with them.
The evening starts with a Solstice Ritual, followed by a performance of songs that honor both the darkness and light within us and around us. The ensemble includes Antonina on vocals, guitar, and percussion, accompanied by musicians Michael Levy, Stephen Vahle, Laura Sera, Terra Collier-Young, and Len Beyea. The event continues with a Community Song Circle, offering everyone a chance to sing along. Antonina leads in a call-and-echo style that is easy to follow.
Community Singing is a growing movement involving singers, song leaders, and songwriters who come together to sing for joy and support through challenging times. Songs are taught orally and include chants, rounds, unison, and multi-layered pieces. The lyrics are hopeful and affirming, touching on themes of love, connection, healing, compassion, overcoming struggle, authenticity, honoring grief and pain, cultivating joy, and Mother Nature. Come and sing or simply relax and receive the goodness!
